About the Presenter
Dr. Ramirez is the Director of the DNP Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the Hawaii State Representative for AAENP, and is the Chairperson of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of AAENP. He obtained his Master’s of Science in Nursing with specialty emphasis in Emergency Nurse Practitioner practice from Vanderbilt University, and his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University with a focus on physical trauma in global health. Dr. Ramirez is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Emergency Nurse Practitioner.

With over 22 years of nursing experience, 17 of which have been working in adult and pediatric emergency departments, Dr. Ramirez remains passionate about nursing, emergency, trauma, DEI, and LGBT care in the ED. In addition to his current position DNP Program Director at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Dr. Ramirez serves as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Taskforce Chairperson of the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing, serves on the Board of Directors and is the Education Chair for the Hawaii Association of Professional Nurses, and serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Network of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Recognized for his continued work to advancing DEI and the role of the APRN and DNP, he is an active member of the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Special Interested Groups, Sigma Theta Tau, Emergency Nurses Association, and the American Assembly for Men in Nursing. He enjoys spending time outdoors, surfing, running, and playing with his dog.
