Board Past President: Ken Stackhouse

Ken Stackhouse, APRN, MBA, MSN, FNP-C, ENP-BC, holds both an MBA and an MSN, and has over 30 years of practical and administrative experience in healthcare.  Ken is dual trained and dual certified as a Family and Emergency Nurse Practitioner and regularly practices as the sole provider in a critical access facility in Texas.  He has served as Director of Nurses for a multi campus facility and has held hands on departmental leadership positions in Emergency, Trauma, EMS medical control and Education for a 19-department system, Day Surgery and Endoscopy.

In addition to his leadership and Nurse Practitioner roles, Ken has practiced as a certified emergency nurse, trauma nurse, charge nurse, firefighter, emergency medical technician, and licensed paramedic. He has also served as a college adjunct faculty for Licensed Vocational Nursing and EMS and currently teaches emergency and trauma to NP’s at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.   He provided consultation as a content expert for Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification with the American Nurse Credentialing Center and was one of the first cohorts of nurse practitioners to qualify and receive the ENP board certification.

Mr. Stackhouse spent 7 years as a Divisional Director of Clinical Services at a practice management group, through which he provided clinical consulting services for emergency, hospitalist, and anesthesia healthcare clients. Ken provides mentoring and leadership coaching for medical and hospital leadership and led the standardization of leadership throughout the 27 facility based practices.  This included an accountability reporting system that has been adopted throughout the country. 

Ken is a founding board member of the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP) and is currently the president elect. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioner. He has been an active participant in community outreach in the state of Texas through volunteer hours for the Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses.  On a national level, Ken received recognition from Homeland Security as part of FEMA’s Peer Evaluation Team to improved disaster response. 

Mr. Stackhouse is certified in LEAN for healthcare.  100% of the departments and facilities Ken has worked with have shown improvement in efficiency and process with most successfully achieving their defined goals.  Ken is passionate about the patient experience.  He created and designed the leadership development for Enhanced Patient Interactions through validation labs.  This hands on leadership training on how to evaluate and coach has been used many companies and hospitals across the country to reach their patient experience and HCAPHS goals.

Ken lives in Houston, Texas with his wife of 30 years. He lives his motto, “Make it a great day!” by helping improve quality, efficiency and value for patients, providers and facilities.
